Supporting Parents Through the Neurodiverse Journey
With over 20 years of experience as a mother navigating the challenges of children with neurodiversity, and now as a Specialist Teacher, I’ve gained invaluable insights. My services, offered both in person and online, are designed to empower you to confidently advocate for your child, making your journey smoother.
Approach
Neurodiverse children often face challenges in a world designed for neurotypical individuals. Their unique ways of thinking, interacting, and responding can sometimes clash with expectations in schools and social settings, leading to difficulties in friendships, academics, and daily activities. Despite their strengths, they may be misunderstood and lack support. As parents, it's crucial to understand our children’s character and how they respond to stimuli. By appreciating their unique traits, with or without a diagnosis, we can better support their development, empower them to advocate for themselves, and help others understand them..
As a Level 5 Specialist Teacher for Children with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) and a mother of three neurodiverse children, I understand the challenges of raising a child in a world that often doesn't accommodate their needs. As a parent, it can feel isolating, discouraging, and at times frightening.
My goal is to support parents through the unique challenges of raising a neurodiverse child. I’m here to help guide you on assessments, help you request school adjustments, connect you with support groups, and provide practical parenting tips. I also offer guidance post-diagnosis, a time that can be especially overwhelming.
Additionally, I can also assist in creating a low-demand home for a neurodiverse child, focusing on designing the environment and routines to reduce stress and overwhelm while improving comfort and security..
My approach is one of nurture and focus, offering not just advice and understanding, but also hope and encouragement.
